Nintendo held their press conference earlier today revealing some much anticipated details on their new console; Nintendo Switch. The Switch will arrive in North America on March 3rd for $299.99. It will feature a 6.2 inch screen with multi touch, and a resolution of 1280 x 720. Internal storage space will be 32 GB, with an option to expand with microSDXC cards. No word on whether or not the Switch will support external hard drives yet, but the Wii U had this option.
Battery life will be 3-6 hours. Zelda can be played for roughly 3 hours before needing a charge. For comparison, the Wii U Gamepad can be used for 3-5 hours before needing a recharge.
Up to 8 systems can link up together for multiplayer but examples of 8 player games were not shown. It is assumed that games like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 will be playable.
An online subscription service was also announced, making Nintendo the last of the three console makers to charge for online play. Besides online lobbies and voice chat, the online service will grant players a free monthly game from the NES or SNES library. It is unknown if players will be able to keep their games month to month, or if the games will only be free during that month. The service will have a free trial period from March to Fall 2017. It is currently unknown how much the service will cost.
